How to use transitions in my paper better?

My teacher keeps telling me that I need to add more transitions and increase the fluidity of my sentences together but I don't really know what she means. Every time she explains it to me it just kind of goes right over my head. Does anyone have any good resources for how to use transitions in an essay better?
