How to write an essay on current events?

I have to write an essay for my class on multiple current events throughout the entire world that are all somehow connected. Now, I have never had a problem with writing an essay before this one. I just really can't comprehend the complexity of it and I can't seem to find any topics that are even slightly related. If anyone has any bright ideas I would be so grateful.
